FREE PAN Allotment in 10 Minutes: The department final deadline for linking Aadhaar with PAN has now been fixed to 31st March 2020. After this, those who be left unlinked will be blocked by the department. Their PAN will become inoperative.

As per the latest statistics of the department, about 17 crore PAN users still have not linked their PANs to their Aadhaar IDs. Other than this, a new utility has been launched on the official web portal of the Income-tax department, where a taxpayer seeking to apply PAN (Permanent Account Number) will be issued a new PAN in just 10 minutes on making disclosure of Aadhaar ID to the tax department.

About the Instant  FREE PAN Allotment Scheme 

The facility is accessible on the department website (https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/) without requiring any login credentials. Those holding a valid Aadhaar number can apply PAN on a real-time basis. It is absolutely free of cost, no charges neither for the application nor for the allotment shall be charged from the applicant.

On the portal, the facility will be required only the Aadhaar ID and the OTP sent on the registered mobile number of the applicant linked with Aadhaar. On submission of OTP, an acknowledgment number will be issued with which the status of the application can be checked. Once the application is submitted, the department will issue the PAN on the email id of the applicant provided or linked with the Aadhaar database.

Checklist for Applicants before filling FREE PAN application :

  • Applicant’s Aadhaar ID should not be linked with any PAN
  • An active mobile number is to be provided or to be linked with Aadhaar before application.
  • No documents or declarations have to be uploaded in the process.
  • The applicant should not be holding any other PAN.

Note: Through amendments made in Section 139A (8) and Rule 114 (6) in the Income-tax rules, 1962, PAN issued/held in electronic /digital mode will also be considered as a valid PAN by the tax department.

Filling Free PAN Application with Aadhaar 

Digital PAN application can be filed on the e-filling website of Income-tax department:

Step 1: Locate to Instant PAN through the Aadhaar link now available on the department website.

Step 2: Click on “ Get New PAN “.

Step 3: Fill in the Aadhaar Number of the applicant.

Step 4: Enter Captcha and Confirm. Wait for the Adhaar OTP to be received on your registered mobile number.

Step 5: On receipt of OTP (One time password), enter OTP and note the acknowledgment number generated.

The acknowledgment number can be used to track the PAN application status.

Downloading PAN from e-Filling Portal

Once an intimation or notification for the generation of PAN from the department is received, PAN can be downloaded in PDF Format from the e-Filling Portal.

To download:

Step 1: Click on- ‘Instant PAN through Aadhaar’.

Step 2: Click – Check Status of PAN’.

Step 3 : Enter Aadhaar number and OTP sent on registered mobile number .

Step 4: Click on download PAN.

PAN QR Scanner App

To help in prompt tracking and downloading of digital PANs, the department also placed a special QR scanning app that can be downloaded from the e-filling portal or here.

Q1. What if I do not get the OTP?

Re-Enter Aadhaar ID or contact UIDAI helpdesk.

Q2. Do I have to send an acknowledgment to the department for the issue of digital PAN?

No acknowledgment is to be sent.

Q3. Can any other details be given, other than those mentioned in Aadhaar like mobile number or address?

No, data, as linked with UIDAI, shall be used for the generation of PAN.

Q4. After this, do I get a Physical PAN Card also?

No, only digital PAN shall be issued in PDF format through this utility.

Q5. Can it be made in my existing PAN through this utility?

No, the only application for new PAN allotment can be filed.
