Value Added Tax

Value added tax or VAT is an indirect tax, which is imposed on goods and services at each stage of production, starting from raw materials to final product. VAT is levied on the value additions at different stages of production. A value added tax (VAT) is a consumption tax added to a product’s sales price. It represents a tax on the “value added” to the product throughout its production process.

Registration

VAT (Value Added Tax) registration is compulsory for dealers having turnover exceeding Rs 5 lacs (or increased limit of Rs 10 lacs in some states) In general, countries that have a VAT system requires some businesses to be registered for VAT purposes. VAT registered businesses can be natural persons or legal entities.

VAT Registration Process

  • You need to send in PAN cards, identity, address proofs and four passport-sized photographs of the proprietor/partners/directors. Private limited companies must also submit the Memorandum and Articles of Association ,Certificate of Incorporation, while Partnerships must submit the Partnership Agreement. Finally, the rental agreement for the office address, if it is rented, along with the electricity bill.
  • The application will be prepared by our representatives in two working days. It will then be filed and submitted to the authorities via our affiliates. We will be sent a basic acknowledgement within seven working days.
  • Your application will be processed by the department and may involve a physical inspection. Once approved, the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), will be issued. A certificate will also be issued.

Applicability

Service tax is a tax levied by the government on service providers on certain service transactions, but is actually borne by the customers. It is categorized under Indirect Tax and came into existence under the Finance Act, 1994.
Tax Rate:- Budget 2016 has proposed to impose a Cess, called the Krishi Kalyan Cess, @ 0.5% on all taxable services. The new effective service tax could henceforth be 15%.

What is Service Tax Registration Certificate ?

Service Tax Registration Certificate is a mandatory registration for service providers who have taxable service of value exceeding 9 lakhs, in the previous financial year. Service tax registration facilitates in the identification of assesse, payment of service tax and filing of service tax returns.

Who must obtain service tax registration ?

Any person who has provided taxable service of value exceeding 9 lakhs in the preceding financial year is required to obtain service tax registration. When a person commences a new business, he/she is required to obtain service tax registration within 30 days of commencement, if the business will have taxable service in excess of   9 lakhs.

What Documents Required for Obtain Service Tax Registration Certificate ?

To obtain service tax registration, a copy of PAN Card, proof of address of business and one business place address proof or constitution of the business [Partnership deed, Incorporation Certificate, etc.,] is required.

How much time taken for obtaining service tax registration certificate ?

Service tax registration certificate must be issued by the Government within a period of seven days from the date of submission of application ST-1 along with all the relevant documents. In case the registration certificate is not issued within seven days, the registration applied for is deemed to have been granted.
